2013 Country Idol Rules



93.3 WFLS Country Idol 2013 Additional Contest Info & Rules 
  1. Requirements
    1. Contestants must be at least 16 years of age upon first scheduled audition date & must be able to provide legal identification for verification purposes.  Contestants under 18 must have a parent or guardian present during Audition Registration.
    2. All contestants must present proper photo ID & sign a waiver confirming their personal information & amateur status.  If a contestant is ruled ineligible during/after a performance round, the individual will also forfeit any prize he or she may have won to that point in the competition.
  2. Judging
    1. Contestants will be judged throughout this competition based on stage presence, vocal ability & showmanship.  Contestants will receive a score ranging from 1 to 10 (with the ability to use half point increments) in these areas; total maximum score is 30.
    2. All judges’ decisions are final & not subject to change unless a registered contestant is found to have violated the Country Idol 2013 contest rules.  93.3 WFLS furthermore retains the right to change said contest rules without prior notification, but will post revised contest rules online at www.wfls.com and will provide each contestant a copy of the revised rules. All contestant penalty or elimination decisions will be made by The Star Radio Group Promotions Director.
  3. Prizes
    1. Grand Prize (First Place)
      1. Receives $1,000 cash
    2. 2nd place winner
      1. Receives $100 cash 
    3. People’s Choice winner
      1. Receives $100 cash
    4. All prizes will be available for pickup by winner within 2 weeks from finale date, unless notified in writing from the Promotions Department of The Star Radio Group.
  4. Auditions
    1. 93.3 WFLS will conduct 3 open auditions for Country Idol 2013.
      1. Friday, January 25; 6pm-8pm; Spotsylvania Towne Centre (center court)
      2. Saturday, January 26; noon-2pm; Spotsylvania Towne Centre (center court)
      3. Saturday, January 26; 4pm-6pm; Spotsylvania Towne Centre (center court)
    2. Audition sessions are limited to the first 50 contestants to register.  Registration is first come first served, and begins 1 hour before each scheduled audition time.
    3. During auditions, contestants will be called by name and registration number to perform. If a contestant fails to arrive on stage after their name and number are called twice, the contestant is eliminated.
    4. Each contestant will have 30 seconds to sing (acapella) a Country Music song of their choice. 
    5. The Judges will choose 10 contestants to advance based on scores and judging criteria listed above.   The 10 contestants in each audition will advance to the 1st semifinal round on February 1, 2013 @ The Inn at the Olde Silk Mill. In the event of a tie for the 10th spot in an audition session, 93.3 WFLS retains the right to add extra semifinalists to the 1st semifinal round.
    6. Contestants may attend multiple audition sessions, but must register for each individual audition session during the hour prior to audition time.
  1. Semifinal Rounds
    1. Round 1, Friday, February 1, 2013 (6pm, Inn at the Olde Silk Mill, 1707 Princess Anne Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22401)
      1. Judges will choose the 20 contestants that will advance to the 2nd semifinal round based on the score and judging criteria listed above.  The 20 “Round 2” Semifinal contestants will be announced at the end of “Round 1” and on the WFLS Morning Show on Monday, February 4, 2013.
      2.  Round 1 Wildcard
        1. One Wildcard contestant will be chosen to advance to Round 2 by online voting.
          1. The 10 “Round 1” contestants that did not advance to the next round will have an opportunity to have the video from their Round 1 performance included in the Round 2 Wildcard vote on wfls.com. To be included in the Wildcard voting, each contestant must notify the Promotions Director by noon, Monday, February 4, 2013. 
        2. Online voting will begin 12:01am, Tuesday, February 5 and ends 11:59pm, Wednesday, February 6.
        3. The person with the most votes wins the Wildcard and advances to the next round.
        4. Wildcard winner will be announced on the WFLS Morning Show and notified by phone or email on February 7.
    2. Round 2, Saturday, February 9, 2013 (6pm, Inn at the Olde Silk Mill, 1707 Princess Anne Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22401)
      1. Judges will choose the 10 contestants that will advance to the Country Idol Finale event based on the score and judging criteria listed above. The 10 finalists will be announced at the end of “Round 2” and on the WFLS Morning Show on Monday, February 11, 2013.
      2. Round 2 Wildcard
        1. One Wildcard contestant will be chosen to advance to the Finale by online voting.
          1. The 10 “Round 2” contestants that did not advance will have an opportunity to have the video from their Round 2 performance included in the Finale Wildcard vote on wfls.com. To be included in the Wildcard voting, each contestant must notify the Promotions Director by noon, Monday, February 11, 2013. 
          2. Online voting will begin 12:01am, Tuesday, February 12 and ends 11:59pm, Wednesday, February 13.
          3. The person with the most votes wins the Wildcard and advances to the next round. This contestant’s first Finale song will be the remaining song from Song Selection Night.
    3. Contestants MUST check in 30 minutes before the scheduled semifinal round times. In the event of an emergency, contestant must call or email the Promotion’s Director at the contact information provided. If contestant fails to check in before the scheduled time, contestant may be eliminated from the competition.
    4. Each contestant will have a maximum of 2 minutes to sing a Country song of their choosing. Song selections must be sent to Promotion’s Director by noon, Wednesday before each competition round. Semi-finalists may either use an audio of background music or play an instrument. Send song in an mp3 format and list song title and artist to sdesouza@starradiogroup.com)
  2. Song Selection & Judges One/One Night (Not open to the Public)
    1. Date: Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 6pm; Dinner provided
    2. Location: The Star Radio Group (616 Amelia Street, Downtown Fredericksburg).
    3. Finalist will:
      1. At random, select their first song to perform at the Finale event from the song list provided. Country Idol Finale Song List will be distributed to all semifinalists after Round 1. Songs from this list can not be chosen as a contestant’s 2nd song choice for finale night.
      2. Record an interview with a 93.3 WFLS DJ to air during the week prior to the Finale event.
      3. Have an opportunity to speak with the judges in attendance on performance.
  3. Finale
    1. Event date: Saturday, February 23, 2013 @ 6pm
    2. Event location: Inn at the Olde Silk Mill, 1707 Princess Anne Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22401
    3. Finalists will each receive 2 complementary tickets for admission to the Country Idol Finale event.
    4. The 11 finalists will each perform 2 songs during the finale; maximum of 2 minutes per song. Each finalist may bring One accompanying instrumentalist.
    5. First song must be the song from the 2013 Country Idol Song List chosen during the Song Selection Night.
    6. 93.3 WFLS Country Idol Finale Song List will be distributed to all semifinalists after Round 1.
    7. Finalist choice for 2nd song must be submitted for approval via e-mail or letter to The Star Radio Group Promotions Director (sdesouza@starradiogroup.com) no later than 12 noon EDT on Wednesday, February 13, 2013.  An mp3 of the approved song must be submitted to the Promotions Director no later than noon, Wednesday, February 20, 2013.
    8. The 2013 Country Idol winner will be determined based on the highest total score between the 2 songs each finalist performs.  The 2nd place finisher will be the next highest total score after the winner.  
    9. In the event of a tie for 1st place, the two highest scoring contestants will sing again, choosing one of the 2 songs they performed that evening.  A new round of scoring will take place & a winner determined based on the extra performance round.
    10. In the event of a tie for 2nd place, the prize will be split amongst the number of tied contestants.
