CLEVELAND (AP) - A woman says she left an Ohio Amish settlement because the bishop who's accused of orchestrating hair-cutting attacks last fall had been forcing her to have sex with him.
The woman told jurors hearing the hate crimes trial of 16 members of a breakaway Amish group that she left the eastern Ohio settlement four years ago because Sam Mullet Sr. was forcing her and others to have sex with him.
The woman says Mullet told her that he was trying to help her with her marriage.
Mullet is accused of organizing the hair-cutting attacks over religious differences among the Amish but is not charged with any sex-related crimes.
Prosecutors say the alleged sexual "counseling" of wives by Mullet shows the control he had over his followers.
