The new National Museuem of the United States Army plans to be open just in time for the Army's 241st anniversary on June 14th, 2016. Retired Colonel David Fabian says the sign marking the location is posted on the Fairfax County Parkway, near Fort Belvoir.
The goal is to raise $155 million to showcase the entire history of the branch. Already more than $65 million is raised. The building architecture and exhibit plans are 95 percent complete.
Fabian says they plan to create a unique visitor experience with soldiers' personal accounts to historical artifacts from every era, because "A great Army deserves a great museum."
Ground will be broken in the Spring of 2014. Until the doors open two years later, fundraising toward the museum's goal from individuals, businesses and corporate donors will continue.
