BREAKING NEWS: Woman in Hospital After Fort Lee Shooting

by Associated Press posted Aug 25 2014 10:04AM

FORT LEE, Va. (AP) - The all clear has been given at Fort Lee Army base in central Virginia after an active shooter was reported there.

Army officials said the base was on lockdown and personnel were told to enact active shooter protocols.

The four-story building involved is the headquarters for the Army's Combined Arms Support Command.

The Army says a female soldier with a gun inside the key building turned it on herself, causing an injury, but didn't hurt anyone else. The Army says early reports indicate she fired one shot this morning, causing the temporary lockdown. The woman was taken to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center and her condition is not known.
Fort Lee is 25 miles south of Richmond and 130 miles from Washington.  According to the military's website, Fort Lee is the Army's third-largest training site. Its daily population is 34,000, with service members, families, civilians and contractors.
