NOTE: Recently, officers have responded to a rash of day-time burglaries throughout the county. While officers have made arrests in many of these cases and they continue to develop suspects in others, the CCSO is reminding residents there are precautions they should take. For instance:
· Lock doors and windows - in many cases, the suspects entered the dwelling through unlocked doors or open windows.
· Consider an alarm system - in some cases, the suspects actually broke out a window or pried open a door and an alarm would alert police.
· Look for unusual activity in your neighborhood – in some cases suspects have actually disguised themselves as utility workers and were able to break in because it appeared they belonged at the house. If you know your neighbors are not at home and you see suspicious activity, call the sheriff’s office right away. We will respond to investigate. Do not approach the person. Rather, get a good description of the person and their car if they have one.
If you have suspect information in any of these burglaries, please call (301) 932-2222. Callers wishing to remain anonymous may call the Charles County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS. There is a cash reward for information leading to the arrest of suspects in these cases. For more information about crime prevention, visit the Charles County Sheriff’s Office web site at www.ccso.us
