A Virginia State Police accident reconstruction team spends nearly four hours investigating a fatal crash on I-95 south Thursday.
A spokeswoman says their troopers were called to the scene at 11:27 a.m. Witnesses say a Kia merged into the southbound lanes from Lorton Road and into the path of a tractor trailer. The truck, loaded with 20,000 pounds of carpet swerved, but still hit the car.
The Kia's driver dies at the scene and the tractor trailer goes down an embankment and jackknifes. Its 49-year-old driver is flown to Fairfax Inova Hospital. The investigation is still ongoing.
