MAN CHARGED WITH THEFT OF SCRAP METALS: On Sept. 25, officers took a report from the owner of an HVAC company who indicated one of his employees had been stealing metals from jobsites and scrapping it at local metal shops. Officers investigated further and confirmed the thefts. The suspect, John Michael Hemming, 31, of Waldorf, was arrested and charged with multiple counts of theft. Sgt. D. Stahl is investigating.
TEEN CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF WEAPON ON SCHOOL GROUNDS: On Sept. 26 at 9:40 a.m., school administrators at La Plata High School were made aware that a student was possibly in possession of a knife. Upon further investigation, a knife was found in the student’s book bag. The teen was charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds and released to the custody of his parents. Officer M. U-HAUL TRUCK STOLEN: Between Sept. 24- Sept. 25, unknown suspect(s) stole a U-Haul truck from the parking lot of a business in the 11700 block of Pika Drive in Waldorf. Officer B. Clark is investigating.
THEFTS FROM CARS: Between Sept. 23 – Sept. 24, unknown suspect(s) stole various items including cash, credit cards and a wallet from three unlocked cars in the 11500 block of Magnolia Court and the 14000 block of Ivanhoe Court in Swann Point. Officers processed the scenes for evidence. Officer B. Flynn is investigating.
BURGLARY REPORTED: On Sept. 24, officers responded to Cypress Place in Indian Head for the report of a burglary. The homeowner reported someone broke into her house and stole her prescription medications. PFC D. Graham is investigating.

Brief Synopsis of the Incident: Investigation revealed Unit #2 was traveling northbound United States Route 301 south of Faulkner Road in lane #1. Unit #1 was attempting to cross northbound United States Route 301 from the median. Unit #1 entered the travel path of Unit #2. Unit #2 collided with Unit #1. As a result of the collision the pedestrian’s left leg was severed just below the knee. The pedestrian’s body came through the windshield and came to rest in the passenger compartment of Unit #2. Unit #1 was pronounced dead on the scene.

DETECTIVES ARREST MAN IN CONNECTION WITH SECOND-DEGREE RAPE AND SEXUAL SOLICITATION: In August of 2012, investigators with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division were contacted about a sexual assault that occurred in Waldorf. Investigation revealed a 14-year-old female had been communicating – through a social networking site - with an individual claiming to be a 17-year-old male. The two agreed to meet. After engaging in sexual activity, the suspect disclosed he was actually 24-years-old. The victim told her parents who then called police. On Sept. 17, detectives went to the victim’s neighborhood after being made aware the suspect was planning to meet with the victim again. As the suspect exited his car, detectives placed him under arrest. Kirk Douglas Yancey, 34, of Capital Heights, was charged with third-degree sex offense and solicitation of a minor. Detectives want to hear from any other minors who have met with Yancey and had sexual contact. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. C. Gass at (301) 609-6522.
ROBBERY: On Sept. 24 at 3:06 a.m., officers responded to a convenience store in the 2400 block of Crain Highway in Waldorf for the report of a robbery that just occurred. Investigation revealed a lone suspect entered the store wearing a dark bandana over most of his face. He approached the clerk, displayed a handgun and demanded money. The clerk complied and the suspect fled. Officer V. Warker is investigating.
VANDALISMS: Between Sept. 22- Sept. 23, unknown suspect(s) scratched four vehicles and punctured the tires of five vehicles in the Milstead Court and Bannister Circle area of Waldorf. Officers canvassed the area for witnesses and processed the scene for evidence. PFC. P. Alvarez is investigating.
THEFT FROM MOTOR VEHICLES: On Sept. 20 between 7:30 a.m. – 11:35 p.m., unknown suspect(s) stole four tires and a spare tire from a custom truck in the 3800 block of Renner Road in Waldorf. Officers canvassed the area for witnesses and processed the scene for evidence. Officer P. Morgan, III is investigating.
BURGLARY: On Sept. 19, officers responded to the 8700 block of Lowell Road in Pomfret for the report of a burglary. The victim stated sometime during that day, someone entered her house and stole several pieces of jewelry. Sgt. S. Grove is investigating.

THEFT FROM MOTOR VEHICLE: On Sept. 18 between 2:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m., unknown suspects broke into a car on Mall Circle Drive in Waldorf and stole several packages that were left inside the vehicle. The suspects then took some of the items that were the packages and returned them to the store where they were purchased. Officers are pursuing leads in this case. Officer K. Makle is investigating.
BURGLARY: On Sept. 18 between 7 a.m. – 11 a.m., unknown suspects broke into a house on Marshall Road in Waldorf and stole several guns and several pieces of jewelry. Officers canvassed the area and located witnesses who observed several suspicious males in the area during the time the burglary was committed. Officers are pursuing leads in the case. PFC D. Arends is investigating.
SERIOUS MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH: On Sept. 18 at 6:31 a.m., officers responded to the 3400 block of Malcolm Road in Brandywine for the report of a motor vehicle crash. A preliminary investigation showed the driver of a Buick passenger car was traveling south on Malcolm Road when the car left the roadway. The driver overcorrected her vehicle and crossed the center lines where she was struck by a Ford pick-up truck which was traveling north. The driver of the Buick - a 39-year-old Brandywine woman - and her 14-year-old daughter (who was in the front passenger seat) were flown to a hospital where the teen was admitted with critical injuries; her mother’s injuries were not life-threatening. The driver of the pick-up, a 24-year-old man from Brandywine, was treated on the scene and released. PFC B. Saunders of the Traffic Operations Unit is investigating.

DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY/POSSIBLE ATTEMPT BURGLARY: On Sept. 14 at 8:43 p.m., officers responded to the 11500 block of Scotch Hills Place in Waldorf for the report of a breaking and entering in progress. Officers met with the victim who stated she was inside her house when someone tried to kick in the front door; entry was not made. Officers canvassed the area for witnesses and processed the scene for evidence. Officer B. Clark is investigating.
BURGLARY: Between Aug. 12 – Sept. 12, unknown suspects broke into a house in the 3100 block of Port Tobacco Road in Nanjemoy and stole long guns and other property. The owner of the house had been away during that time period. Officers canvassed the area for witnesses and processed the scene for evidence. Cpl. J. Timko is investigating.
OFFICER RECOVERS STOLEN CAR: On Sept. 13 at 10:30 p.m., Officer J. Garner was conducting a parking lot check at an apartment complex in the 2100 block of Crain Highway in Waldorf when he observed an unoccupied suspicious vehicle. A computer check of the registration plates revealed the car had been reported stolen from another county. The car was towed for safekeeping. Pfc. J. Garner investigated.
THEFT FROM MOTOR VEHICLES: On Sept. 13 between 5:40 a.m. – 4:15 p.m., unknown suspects broke into three cars at the Mattawoman Park and Ride in the 3200 block of Mattawoman Beantown Road in Waldorf. Stereo equipment and other items were stolen. Officers canvassed the area and processed the scene for evidence. Officer J. Garner is investigating.

On September 14, 2012 at approximately 3:20 p.m. the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 4600 block of Clay St for a report of suspicious activity. On arrival of Deputies Tittle, Walsh and Suthard they found an occupied van in the cul-de-sac and another suspect exiting the rear of a residence which had its sliding glass door shattered.
The suspect exiting the residence was identified as Jason Lee Lawhorn, 31 W/M of Orange and he was charged with Breaking and Entering and Possession of Burglarious Tools. The suspect in the van, Billy Lee Cooper, 21 W/M of Orange was waiting on Lawhorn and was charged with Accessory to Breaking and Entering. Lawhorn was attempting to steal various pieces of electronic equipment from the residence. All items were recovered and returned to the victims.
Cooper and Lawhorn were held in jail under no bond.

On September 15, 2012 at approximately 6:40 p.m. Lieutenant Steve Clem of the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office was responding to assist another deputy operating his lights and sirens heading Southbound on Jefferson Davis Hwy in the area of Massaponax Church Rd.
Lieutenant Clem slowed as he approached a motorcycle which appeared to be slowing to pull to the side of the road to allow Lieutenant Clem to pass. The motorcycle then rapidly accelerated away from Lieutenant Clem. Lieutenant Clem estimated the motorcycle to be going well in excess of 100 miles per hour as it continued to pull away from Lieutenant Clem heading Southbound on Jefferson Davis Hwy. Shortly past Massaponax High School, Lieutenant Clem observed the motorcycle driver loose control and strike the guardrail. The motorcycle driver was thrown over the guardrail and suffered from multiple broken bones and internal injury. He is currently being treated at Mary Washington Hospital.
The driver was identified as Marcos Suniga-Raudales, 25 H/M of Alexandria. Warrants were obtained on him for Felony eluding of a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, no valid operators license, no motorcycle license endorsement, Failure to register a vehicle with the department of motor vehicles, and driving without valid insurance.

On 09/07/12 Deputy Hamilton arrested Dominic Brown, B/M 31 of Fredericksburg in the 4500 block of Plank Rd on three felony warrants from the City of Fredericksburg and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bobby LaRose, W/M 21 of Spotsylvania was also arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and driving revoked (3rd offense) and released on summons.
On 09/07/12 Deputy Woodard arrested Kimberly Faltz, W/F 21 of Fredericksburg at the intersection of Leavells Rd and Harrison Rd on three felony warrants from Stafford County and possession of drug paraphernalia. Carson Bennett, W/M 53 of Fredericksburg was arrested and released on a summons for possession of marijuana.

OFFICERS APPREHEND BURGLARY SUSPECTS: On Sept. 12 at 3:40 p.m., officers responded to the 9300 block of Pep Rally Lane in Waldorf for the report of a burglary in progress at a vacant house. When officers arrived, a male was observed running from the rear of the house. Officers established a perimeter and called in a K-9 team who then searched the house. Three juveniles were found inside and were arrested without incident. The suspects – two 14-year-old males and one 15-year-old male - were charged with burglary and released to their parents. FIRST-DEGREE ASSAULT: On Sept. 10 at 11:57 p.m., officers responded to the 2800 block of Lyon Court in Waldorf for the report of an assault. Investigation showed the victim, 25, was staying the night at a friend’s house when he was confronted by someone at the residence about money he owed them. The victim left the house and was immediately confronted by at least three other males who punched him and stabbed him. The victim sustained several injuries and was transported to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Officer I. Bier is continuing the investigation.
VANDALISM/RRE: On Sept. 7 at 8 p.m., officers responded to the area of Sweetman Road and Chicamuxen Road in Marbury for the report of vandalism. Unknown suspect(s) spray painted a racial slur on the bottom of a street sign. Officers canvassed the areas for witnesses and processed the scene for evidence. Sgt. J. Hastings is investigating.

DETECTIVES ARREST MAN IN CONNECTION WITH SOLICITATION OF A MINOR: On Sept. 4, officers were notified of a child solicitation case that occurred in Waldorf. Investigation showed a 15-year-old male began receiving text messages in late August from an unknown person claiming to be a female classmate. The person asked the victim to send lewd photos and described sexual acts they wanted to engage in with the victim. In the days that followed, the person sending the texts actually called the victim who immediately recognized the male voice as that of a man who lived nearby. The youth told his parents who then called police. Timothy Doral Hawkins, 41, of Waldorf, was arrested on Sept. 5 and charged with sexual solicitation of a minor. At this point, no other cases have been reported; however, investigators want to hear from anyone who may have been inappropriately contacted by Hawkins. PATROL OFFICERS RECOVER DRUGS AND PARAPHERNALIA DURING TRAFFIC STOP: On Sept. 4 at 7:15 p.m., a patrol officer initiated a traffic stop near Route 228 and Stavors Road in Waldorf after observing a traffic violation. Upon approaching the car, the officer smelled an odor of marijuana. Inside the car, he discovered several baggies of marijuana, a plastic replica of a semi-automatic handgun, drug paraphernalia, fans, humidifiers, dirt, plant food, fertilizer, books and notebooks containing literature on how to grow marijuana, electrical outlets, thermometers, shears, and nine planting pots. The occupants, Jordan Jamaal Jones-Hicks, 19, of Joppa, and Lauren Edwina Kidd, 22, of Waldorf, were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute. BURGLARY/ASSAULT: On Sept. 5 at 10:25 a.m., officers responded to the 4600 block of Pretancia Place in Waldorf for a burglary. Upon arrival, officers learned the victim had just returned to her apartment when she observed a lone male standing in the foyer; he was armed with a gun. The suspect told the woman to lie on the ground and she complied. Moments later, the suspect fled and the victim called police. She was not injured. The suspect is described as black male, late twenties to early thirties, 6’3” to 6’4”, 230-240 lbs with a stocky build. At the time, he was wearing a baggy long-sleeve white T-shirt, loose blue jeans (cuffed at the bottom) and tan timberland style work boots. There have been no other similar reports. STRONG-ARM ROBBERY: On Sept. 4 at 8:30 p.m., the victim was at a bus stop in the area of Oakly Drive and Wakefield Circle in Waldorf when he was approached by several people who assaulted him and stole money from his pants pockets. The suspects fled and the victim called police. Officers canvassed the area and processed the scene for evidence. Officer E. Webster is investigating.
DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: On Sept 1 at 3:33 a.m., officers responded to Miranda Place in Waldorf after a citizen called and reported seeing two white males walking down the street smashing the windows out of cars. Officers arrived and discovered several damaged vehicles. Officer P. DeBoe is investigating.
