State police are now confirming that two people were killed in a plane crash in Spotsylvania County Saturday afternoon, both of whom were aboard the plane.
The blue-and-white plane had apparently just taken off from Shannon Airport in Spotsylvania County. A witness says it went straight up in a vertical climb and then turned and went straight down, corkscrewing into the ground. The plane hit a tree and landed where Carrie Court dead-ende near the airport.
An eyewitness reports that the crash occurred at 5:11 p.m.
An official at Shannon Airport tells a Free Lance-Star reporter that the plane was a 1974 Cessna 150M, single engine. The plane was a familiar one to residents of a nearby trailer park who recognized it by sight and by its loud engine.
The NTSB has been notified. No one on the ground was hurt.
