Congress must act soon to stave off drastic cuts to federal defense spending, GOP Congressman Rob Wittman tells a crowd of about 100 people at Stafford County's Riverside Center Wednesday.
From the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, President Obama's National Press Secretary Ben Labolt says the matter is on the table before Congress. He says the vote on sequestration was designed to push action by lawmakers to take action on curbing spending and balance the budget. Even so, without action, more than $1 trillion in cuts to defense spending over a decade will kick in on January 1st. Labolt says the time for compromise from both parties is at hand.
Wittman's Fredericksburg seminar on the topic is one of four planned in the area on the topic.
