On Wednesday, 4/23/14, Street Crimes Unit Deputies Harris and Greene conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle, being driven by Anthony Miller, in the area of mile marker 117 on interstate 95. The vehicle was stopped for a minor traffic infraction. Miller, 27 from Cleveland Heights, Ohio, was cooperative with Deputies. During the interaction with the Street Crimes Unit Deputies, it was discovered that He, (Miller), was secreting marijuana in the vehicle. During further investigation, Deputies uncovered over 36 lbs. of marijuana hidden in the trunk of the suspect's vehicle. Miller was arrested for the Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana; over 5 pounds; a felony in Virginia. Miller was taken before a Magistrate and was ordered held at RRJ with no bond. The street value of the marijuana is approximately $174,000.
Sheriff Roger L. Harris noted several recent successes of the Street Crimes Unit; a Unit within the Criminal Investigations Division of the Sheriff’s Office. “Since Jan 01, 2014 the Special Investigations Unit has seized approximately $75,000 in cash from various narcotics investigations, along with numerous vehicles and firearms”. This particular Unit concentrates on Robbery crews, Larceny and theft Organizations and targets high crime areas, seeking the identification and ultimately the successful resolution to criminal activity of the particular group or organization that is committing these acts in Spotsylvania County. The work very closely with Patrol Deputies and other CID components, such as Narcotics and General Assignments Units to help wherever and whenever they are needed.
