Don't Fall for The Latest Scam: SMiSHing

by Frank Hammon posted Aug 7 2013 11:19AM
A text message on your cell phone asking for personal information is the latest scam to get into your wallet.
Tom Gallagher of the Better Business Bureau says it's SMiSHing and you need to ignore it.
The name originates from "phishing," the act of  attempting to acquire personal information by an untrustworthy entity in an electronic communication.
Gallgher says, "Don't do it. Get out of the thing, erase it and don't give them any idea you have a valid number."
Gallagher says in his years of experience he has yet to run into an instance where a bank or utility company will contact you seeking your personal information. He adds, "It's not your lucky day."
