Kids are back in school across the region today, it's warmer and life is returning to normal, but in the height of the cold from the "polar vortex," Dominion Virginia Power met a record winter peak demand for electricity.
On Tuesday it supplied nearly 20 thousand megawatts of power between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m., the most since February of 2007. The all-time peak demand record was in July of 2011. One megawatt supplies enough power at peak for 250 homes.
