Diana Ross Speaks Out on Custody of Jackson's Children

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Diana Ross says the recent turmoil involving Michael Jackson's children and the appointment of a temporary guardian is a private matter and shouldn't be playing out publicly.
The singer writes in a statement to The Associated Press that "all interests are best served if it remains private."
Ross was named in Jackson's 2002 will as a potential guardian for his three children if his mother was not available to serve. A judge suspended Katherine Jackson as the children's guardian last week after a 10-day absence and instructed the temporary guardian, TJ Jackson, to notify Ross of the changes.
Court filings on Friday indicated that Ross' attorney had been given notice.
The 68-year-old singer and Jackson were longtime friends before his death in 2009.

Michael Jackson's Children Get Temporary New Guardian

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A judge appointed Tito Jackson's son Wednesday as a temporary guardian of Michael Jackson's children.
In addition, the judge temporarily suspended Katherine Jackson as the children's guardian because she is in Arizona and hadn't spoken with them in several days.
TJ Jackson appeared in court and sought the temporary appointment, but his attorney said he wasn't trying to replace Katherine Jackson permanently.
TJ Jackson said he spoke with Katherine Jackson on Tuesday, but she sounded strange. He says she was using words he had never heard her use and her voice at times sounded slurred.
The appointment came after days of turmoil among the Jackson family, with a relative reporting Katherine Jackson missing before she was located safely with other family members in Arizona.
Katherine Jackson is the court-appointed guardian of her son Michael's three children, Prince, Paris and Blanket. The children have remained at the home they share with their grandmother in Calabasas.
The house was the scene of a family disturbance Monday that sheriff's deputies continue to investigate.

NEW YORK (AP) - Jennifer Lopez is the second judge in two days to say she's leaving "American Idol."
Her representative, Mark Young, said Friday that Lopez is ending her time on television's most popular show after two years. Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler said the same thing on Thursday.
That means the show's judging panel is down to one, Randy Jackson, and there are reports that he may take a different role on the program moving forward.
Fox's "American Idol" has been TV's most popular program for nearly a decade. But it slumped severely in the ratings last season, and producers are looking for a way to shake things up.

<VIDEO> MANTEO, N.C. (AP) - Andy Griffith, whose homespun mix of humor and wisdom made "The Andy Griffith Show" an enduring TV favorite, has died. He was 86.
Dare County Sheriff Doug Doughtie says in statement Griffith died Tuesday at about 7 a.m. He says the family will release further information.
His starring role as a small-town sheriff drew upon his own upbringing in Mount Airy, N.C. The show also starred Don Knotts and was one of the top hits of the 1960s and a perennial in reruns.
Griffith later played a shrewd Southern lawyer in another successful series, "Matlock."
Before taking on television, he won wide praise in the 1950s in the Broadway comedy "No Time for Sergeants" and the dramatic film, "A Face in the Crowd."

NEW YORK (AP) - Alec Baldwin and his yoga instructor fiancee have tied the knot in a New York City church.
The 54-year-old Baldwin and 28-year-old Hilaria Thomas married Saturday evening at St. Patrick's Old Cathedral. Baldwin's friend and publicist said the "30 Rock" star warmly received congratulations from well-wishing fans.
Thomas wore a silk magnolia Amsale gown with cap sleeves. Baldwin's suit was designed by Tom Ford.
The two began dating last year. Baldwin previously was married to actress Kim Basinger; they have a daughter, Ireland, who attended the wedding.
The reception was held at New York University's Kimmel Center.
The wedding came about a week after Baldwin and a news photographer got into a scuffle outside of a courthouse where the actor was believed to have been picking up a marriage license.

Now that Beyonce and Jay-Z have confirmed that they're attending the BET Awards, the next question is: Will Kanye West be the third wheel, or will his girlfriend, Kim Kardashian, be on his arm?
Kardashian could add to the list of big names attending Sunday's awards show, which already includes Quentin Tarantino, Jamie Foxx and host Samuel L. Jackson. Top musicians are attending, too; Nicki Minaj, Usher, Rick Ross and Chris Brown are set to perform. Whitney Houston's mother will also perform a tribute to her late daughter with other singers.
The event will be Brown's first public appearance since the nightclub brawl between his entourage and Drake's. Drake isn't scheduled to attend the awards.
West is the top nominee, followed by Beyonce and Jay-Z.
