NEW YORK (AP) - Alicia Keys is launching a storytelling app for kids.
"The Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee" is about a young New York City girl's relationship with her wise grandmother. It will be released Thursday for $3.99 and is inspired by Keys' relationship with her grandmother.
The interactive app is centered in LeeLee's bedroom. It allows users to read books, play music and write in a journal.
Keys said after giving birth to her son two years ago she wanted to create learning tools for children.
She said in an interview Wednesday raising her son was part of the app's inspiration because she has been introducing him to children's TV shows and DVDs. The 14-time Grammy Award winner says she thought of creating a TV show or film but making an app for kids is "limitless."

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Mario Lopez and Khloe Kardashian Odom are officially joining "The X Factor."
The "Extra" host and the "Keeping Up with Kardashians" co-star will host the second season of the Fox talent competition. The network said Tuesday that Lopez and Odom will first appear as hosts during the show's live broadcasts beginning in November.
"X Factor" judge and executive producer Simon Cowell called Tuesday's announcement "the worst kept secret in Hollywood."
British television personality Steve Jones served as the show's host for the first season.
The addition of Lopez and Kardashian is the latest shift for the underperforming singing content. Britney Spears and Demi Lovato joined Cowell and L.A. Reid on the "X Factor" judging panel for the second season. The pair replaced Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger.

CBS claims ratings win for 1st week of TV season
by AP

posted Oct 2 2012 4:42PM
|
|
NEW YORK (AP) - CBS is off to a rosy start as the 2012-13 season logs its first week.
The Nielsen Co. says CBS took a solid lead in prime-time viewers. It won 10 of the top 20 program slots and had the two highest-rated series premieres last week.
CBS' new period-piece drama, "Vegas" debuted in sixth place, while its contemporary Sherlock Holmes whodunit, "Elementary," premiered in 10th place.
Overall for the week, ABC was runner-up in the ratings, while NBC took third place.
As usual, NBC's "Nightly News" topped the evening newscasts. But ABC's "World News" was nipping at its heels, just 42,000 viewers behind. This was the smallest gap since September 2009, when the ABC newscast most recently held first place.
