HERNDON, Va. (AP) - The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating whether a piece of metal that crashed through a northern Virginia home may have fallen from an airplane.
reports that the metal piece, several inches long and weighing several pounds, pierced the awning of a Herndon home and landed in the dining room of homeowner Abby Baker on Friday morning. No one was injured.
FAA spokesman Jim Peters said Monday the home is along the flight path of Dulles International Airport and investigators are tracking down the flights that were arriving and departing that morning to see if the metal fell from a plane. No determination has been made so far.
