Fauquier County Passes Tough Ordinance on Wineries

by Associated Press posted Jul 13 2012 1:39PM
As Virginia's wine industry continues to boom here and abroad, a new ordinance in Fauquier County has some winery owners upset.
Passed by the board of supervisors this week, it would limit the number of monthly events the facilities can host and the amount of people that can attend. It would also require fees from $350 to $1,000 for larger events. Some owners of the 26 wineries in the county say the ordinance is too restrictive and could put them out of business.
This comes as Governor Bob McDonnell makes trips to Europe to help expand Virginia's wine industry more overseas.
