RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling has hired a veteran Republican strategist and chief of staff to former Gov. Jim Gilmore as the top political guru to guide his campaign into next year's high-profile Republican gubernatorial primary duel with Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli.
Bolling announced Wednesday that Boyd Marcus is his campaign's general consultant.
Besides steering Gilmore's successful 1997 race for governor, Marcus is a key adviser to U.S. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.
Christie Heath comes aboard as Bolling's finance director. She was a deputy to Gov. Bob McDonnell's secretary of the commonwealth and a former aide to Cantor.
Trixie Averill is Bolling's western Virginia political director. She chaired the 6th Congressional District GOP and was state director for Americans for Prosperity,
