FALSE REPORT OF CRIME:
800 block Charles St, 3/20 2:10 am. A Richmond resident reported that he was robbed at
knifepoint by a male subject he met at the intersection of George and Princess Anne Streets. A short time later, officers located the subject matching the description of the robbery suspect in the 800 block of Caroline Street, and he provided an entirely different version of the encounter. The alleged “suspect”, a homeless man, reported that he met an intoxicated man outside of Spirits Bar, and the intoxicated man offered him cash in exchange for buying him some beer at a convenience store. As an assurance that he would return with the beer and not just walk away with the money, the homeless man agreed to hand over his Micah identification card to the man to hold until the deal was complete. Unable to purchase alcohol after hours, the homeless man returned to Spirits and the man with whom he had made the agreement was gone. He then walked around downtown until he was checked by police. As verification of the story, officers located the homeless man’s ID in the pocket of the supposed robbery victim. James Zitz, 38, of Richmond was arrested for public intoxication and making a false police report. Zitz was incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under a $1000 bond.
