ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - A former preschool teacher has pleaded guilty to producing child pornography by filming his sexual abuse of 5-year-old students in Japan.
Fifty-four-year-old James Manring of Fredericksburg entered the plea Monday in U.S. District Court in Alexandria. He faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison.
According to a statement of facts, Manring filmed himself abusing students while teaching at a preschool in Japan from 1996 to 1999. Prosecutors say Manring brought a DVD depicting the abuse when he returned to the U.S. He came to the attention of law enforcement when, authorities say, he bought videos containing child pornography.
Prosecutors say Manring taught preschool in Bethesda before his arrest on Nov. 13.
