Government Shutdown Would Affect History Buffs

by Deirdre Blake posted Sep 30 2013 6:25AM
The impact of a government shutdown will be known by 11:59 p.m. tonight and it would affect local history buffs.
The National Park Service says it would shutter the George Washington Birthplace National Monument and most of the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park. North Lee Drive on the Fredericksburg battlefield would stay open, but roads on the Spotsy Court House battlefield and around the Chancellorsville Visitor Center would be closed and the gates lowered.
