Ground is broken on Friday morning on the future Hyatt Place Hotel near the University of Mary Washington.
Fredericksburg's Mayor Mary Katherine Greenlaw, the University of Mary Washington's Rick Hurley and Mary Washington Healthcare's Fred Rankin are among the dignitaries, clad in hard hats that throw shovels of dirt.
Greenlaw says this is the first project in the state to qualify for Virginia Tourism Development financing. The Hyatt Place will open next fall with 93 studio rooms or suites, meeting and conference rooms, 24-hour food and beverage service and 1600 square feet of retail space.
The road that connects Eagle Village and the future Hyatt Place to the Mary Washington Heathcare campus, down the hill is also dedicated. Eagle Village Drive was paved just this week.
