Gubernatorial Candidates to Debate Saturday; PBS to Stream Live

by Deirdre Blake posted Jul 19 2013 2:29PM
Sparks will likely fly at the Homestead in Virginia Saturday morning when Republican Ken Cuccinelli and Democrat Terry McAuliffe square off in their first gubernatorial debate.
Uncomfortable questions are likely, especially about money and politics. University of Mary Washington Political Analyst Dr. Steven Farnsworth expects the pair will also deal with questions about energy, uranium mining in southwest Virginia and transportation funding. It will also be streamed live on-line through PBS, but Farnsworth expects low attendance there and viewership. He says it is a good first start of multiple debates to come toward the fall. He says they will be lucky now beacuse "what you can in September or October matters much more than what you say in July."
Libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis will not be in the debate, but plans a campaign stop here to the Burg' next week.
