Just in time for the formal first day of summer, some oppressive heat to settle in over the region.
Kevin Witt with the National Weather Service in Sterling says there is a heat advisory in effect from noon until 8:00 p.m Wednesday. A high pressure sytem in control over much of the region is linked to sinking air. When you pair that up with no cold fronts available and weeks of dry conditions, it is a recipe for high temperatures.
Witt says they will look at conditions early in the day Wednesday and the advisory could be extended into Thursday. Though temperatures will be in the mid to upper 90's, it will feel like it is 100 to 105 degrees.
