Following a high speed chase, two people and a Charles County Police officer are involved in a fatal crash on Veteran's Day.
Authorities got the call of a Volkswagen Jetta fleeing the scene of a large fight in Indianhead just after 12:30 a.m. Sunday. A be-on-the-lookout was posted and a responding officer started following the car. It led the officer on a chase before its' driver crested a hill, lost control and hit an embankment. The driver and passenger, Wallace Maddox, were thrown from the car.
The pursuing officer did not see the crash and hit the unconscious Maddox, who was lying in the road. He was pronounced dead at an area hospital. The investigation into the crash and why the driver fled is ongoing.
