Virginia law could get tougher on people that hit a police officer with their car.
The plan would move the now misdemeanor to a felony of reckless driving if it causes the death or serious injury of law enforcement, EMS personnel, highway workers or a firefighter and it's moving forward in the Senate. The issue gained attention after the 2012 death of a trooper at the Virginia State Fair.
