Hokies shift from development to bowl preparation

     UNDATED (AP) - Virginia Tech's practices are moving from player-development mode to bowl preparation.
     Coach Frank Beamer set Wednesday as the day for the Hokies to transition into game-specific drills for the Russell Athletic Bowl against Rutgers.
     The Hokies (6-6) used the early part of their postseason practices to give players that redshirted or were lightly used reserves a chance to take center stage and gain experience for next season.
     After a disappointing year that began with expectations of contending for the national championship and ended with the Hokies scrambling to become bowl eligible, several players say the team views the bowl game as a chance to end on a high note and build momentum heading into next season.
     Virginia Tech faces the Scarlet Knights (9-3) on Dec. 28 in Orlando, Fla.
