Irish QB Rees admits alcohol, resisting charges

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Notre Dame quarterback Tommy Rees will perform 50 hours of community service after pleading guilty to misdemeanor counts of resisting law enforcement and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor in connection with his arrest outside a party in South Bend, Ind.

The 20-year-old Rees received a 30-day suspended jail sentence, 11 months of probation and must write a letter of apology to the officers involved in his May 3 arrest.

Prosecutors agreed to dismiss one count of resisting law enforcement and a battery count in return for the guilty plea entered Monday.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Rees was pepper-sprayed and arrested after he allegedly ran away from an off-campus party and knocked the wind out of a police officer who caught up to him.
