Less Antibiotics Prescribed for Strep Throat Fears

by Deirdre Blake posted Oct 4 2013 6:24AM
If you go to the doctor with a sore throat, you're less likely to get an antibiotic these days. Researchers said only about 10 percent of sore throats are from strep throat, which is caused by bacteria. All the others are caused by viruses and antibiotics could do more harm that good. Signs of strep are fever, swollen lymph nodes, white spots on the tonsils or swollen tonsils and no cough.
