Local Man Recounts Weekend Spotsylvania Robbery

by Deirdre Blake posted Nov 26 2012 7:38PM
Jacob Courtney is among a group of friends that are lucky to be safe today after a run-in with masked robbers over the weekend.
He tells WFLS it happened early Sunday morning while they were camping in the woods behind their families Lee's Hill subdivision. Courtney says the five armed men rushed in from the surrounding woods, forced the group to the ground at gunpoint and demanded money. Courtney says it was impossible to tell if the guns were real and a few of them actually thought it could have been a prank.  They all laid down on the ground and those at gunpoint surrendered the money in their wallets. After one friend tried to stand up and retaliate, he was kicked in the face, suffering a broken nose. Courtney says several of his friends then got up to try and ward off their assailants. The five then ran off into the woods, but not before getting money from the men.
Authorities are still looking for information on the five suspects. They are warning local campers to go to secure locations that are not that remote so they can be found by authorities in an emergency.
