Long Lines and Many "Black Friday" Deals in Fredericksburg

Deals abound for those willing to stand in lines for "Black Friday" doorbusters and other holiday deals. :
Some merchants opened Thursday night and those willing to be patient and brave the sea of people made out well. Some saved several hundred dollars. One woman tells WFLS that she saved $150 on a tablet.
For some the deals were great, but the experience was a little scary. One lady tells us she didn't expect the chaos. She and a group waited around a taped off kiosk of discounted video games at one retailer. The group tried to plan in advance and agreed to grab the games the person on the other side needed, so there was no stampede. While she thinks it was a great idea, sometimes the best laid plans fall apart. When she went to bend down and get the games on the lower side of her side, the tall folks behind her rushed in. "I kind of fell forward and face planted into a cardboard display, she says."
Patrick Davis again this year arrived early, on Monday, and pitched his four man tent in front of Best Buy. He says that he has been first for the fourth year in a row, but has to keep coming a little earlier. Last year he and his family saved $1500 on some big ticket items like tvs and other electronics. Many adults want the electronics and what do kids want? Everything from the resurrected "Furby" and video games to the Ipad Touch fifth generation are on the list.
Some people say they stay up late or wake up early and make a list to get the savings, but for many it is tradition. We caught up with one group of sisters from Louisa County who have traveled to the Spotsylvania Towne Center for "Black Friday" deals for 20 years.
At some stores, like Toy's R' Us, security is limiting the people going in at one time. A heavy police presence has been noticed outside many area merchants and on roads leading to the shopping areas. For those who waited late Friday or the weekend to shop, the crowds might be a little lighter.
