A Spotsylvania man is dead after he jumped from the I-95 bridge that spans the Rappahannock River early this morning.
According to Virginia State Police a motorist saw the car of 31-year-old Daniel Edman parked on the southbound span at about 3:15 a.m. and notified authorities. The span was partially shut down as fire and rescue teams from Fredericksburg and Stafford searched the river 90-feet below. all of the lanes werwe reopened about two hours later after Edman's body was discovered.
This is not the first time that someone jumped from the twin spans.
Some have questioned why a safety fence that would discourage any such incidents has not been erected to prevent such incidents. VDOT officials cite the cost of installing the fence as the main reason.
