Everyone’s talking about tankless water heaters. Are they really the best solution to my hot water needs?
Although tankless water heaters are relatively new to us they have been in use in other parts of the world for over 30 years. Some of the benefits of a tankless water heater are:
• An endless supply of hot water to multiple outlets
• No fluctuation in temperature
• Up to 70% more efficient than tank type water heaters
• Significant energy cost savings
• 2-1/2 times the life expectancy of a tank type water heater
• Take up less room- frees up floor or closet space

I’m on a well water system. Are there any maintenance requirements for this system?
A domestic water well system should be inspected once a year. This is your drinking water and you want the peace of mind of knowing that you water is safe to drink. An inspection should include:
• Visual inspection of the well and surrounding area.
• Pump performance
• Condition of pressure tank
• Condition of wiring, piping, and controls
• Water quality test
• Test for coliform bacteria and nitrates
• Check for ground water infiltration
• Written report of findings

The toilets in my home keep getting clogged and oftentimes I have to flush them several times to clear them. What’s up with this?
Newer toilets use less water than old toilets and that’s a good thing -if they are working properly. However, if you need to flush them several times you’re probably using more water than less. Many of the first generation 1.5 gpf (gallons per flush) did not work very well. They clogged easily and did not remove everything on the first flush. The good news is there are newer 1.5 gpf toilets that provide excellent performance. There are even toilets on the market that use only 1.3 gpf. Other conditions that may cause a “lazy toilet flush” are:
• An obstruction in the toilet trapway
• A clogged sewer line
• Improper venting
• Your septic tank, if you have one, may need cleaning

I hope these Q&A’s help. If we at Rapidan can help out with any challenges you may have with plumbing, well pump, sewage pump, or water improvement just contact us and well get your system in tip top shape.
