On December 19, 2012 at approximately 1740 hours, TFC. M. Newman responded to The LaPlata Walmart, LaPlata, MD to assist Cpl. Posey  of the LaPlata Police Department for a possible theft in progress and attempt to locate a wanted subject.

TFC. Newman arrived with Cpl. Posey and the possible suspects had already left the store.  It was determined one of the suspects was Samantha Marie Shadrick.  An NCIC check was conducted and revealed she had several open warrants in Charles and St. Mary's County.  A lookout was broadcasted for a white Chevrolet pickup truck as the suspect vehicle.

Another lookout was given approximately five minutes later stating the suspects were now at the Target Store in LaPlata.  TFC. Newman responded to the Target with Cpl. Posey. A white Chevrolet truck matching the description was  leaving the area.  Cpl. Posey and TFC Newman initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.

TFC. Newman made contact with the passengers of the vehicle while Cpl. Posey spoke with the driver.  The rear passenger was a white female matching the physical characteristics of Samantha Shadrick.  TFC Newman asked Mrs. Shadrick to exit the vehicle and noticed she was deliberately taking her time by ignoring his commands.  Mrs. Shadrick exited the vehicle and TFC. Newman noticed her left hand was balled into a fist.  Mrs. Shadrick was asked to open her hand and she refused to open it.  She quickly put her hand up to her mouth and attempted to swallow a suspected controlled Dangerous substance. Shadrick refused to spit out the items.   She was taken into custody and  Shadrick was observed spitting out three white oblong pills (Suspected) CDS .  Shadrick attempted to assault TFC Newman by kicking him in the leg and then began screaming profanities.
Mrs. Shadrick was confirmed wanted by the Charles County Sheriff's Office for Two open warrants of Theft Less $1000, and One Second Degree Assault warrant.  Mrs. Shadrick also had an open criminal summons for Theft Less $1000.  An additional check revealed Mrs. Shadrick had two more open warrants through the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office.

Mrs. Shadrick was transported to the Charles County Detention Center and charged with Disorderly Conduct, Second Degree Assault-Law Enforcement, and Possession of CDS not marijuana.
