Measure to Ban Assault Weapons in Connecticut

by Associated Press posted Apr 3 2013 8:11PM
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - The Connecticut Senate has approved wide-ranging gun control legislation in response to last year's deadly school shooting in Newtown that left 20 first-graders and six staffers dead.
The measures include a ban of the sale of large-capacity ammunition magazines and 100 weapons that previously had been legal.  The 139-page bill was crafted by leaders from both major parties in the Democratic-controlled legislature. The Senate voted 26-10 in favor of the bill.
The bill has gone to the House of Representatives, which is expected to pass it tonight. It would then be sent to Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, who has said he'll sign it.
