So apparently. we just didn't just get snow early yesterday morning. Virginia also got an Earthquake. Well in Goochland, VA. Goochland is near Richmond. My in-laws actually live right near Goochland. It happened at 3:28am and the magnitude of the quake was a 2.5.

Are you a parent? Have you ever wondered what other children (your own kids ages) eat from around the world? I saw an article last week and thought it was neat. Kids from countries, like Tokyo, Amsterdam, Iceland, Brazil, Malawi and more are shown with the breakfast. It's interesting to see what a nutritious breakfast, for the most important meal of the day looks like.

Could you imagine coming across a box filled with never developed negatives from the 50's and 60's? Well one guy bought a box of negatives at an auction and got them developed. The pictures were taken from a street photographer and they are amazing. There's even a picture of the photographer who took all of the amazing photos.

If you haven't seen this yet check it out here.

I saw this last week and wanted to share it with you. Australia's oldest man (109) spends his time knitting tiny sweaters for tiny injured penguins.

How cute are the penguins?

With all this snow we have....why not try to make your own snow ice cream? Only use CLEAN snow. Don't get snow from the street.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup milk (any kind)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 8 cups clean snow or shaved ice (more or less depending on the density of the snow)
  • optional topping: sprinkles or chocolate chips (or both)

DIRECTIONS:

In a large bowl, whisk milk, sugar, vanilla and salt together until combined. Go scoop up some fresh (clean!) snow, and immediately stir it into the milk mixture until you reach your desired consistency. Top with sprinkles or other ice cream toppings if desired.

The ice cream should be fluffy and not runny, but it melts quickly, so dive in right away!

*Consume fresh snow at your own risk.

All this info is from this blog.

**I posted this on the WFLS Facebook page yesterday afternoon. Thank you so much to those who made the snow ice cream when they got home and shared it on our page.

Happy Snow Day!! :)

Personally, I only like the snow to look at. Sure when I was a little kid I loved it because I got our of school and it was fun to go sledding. As an adult, I don't like having to drive in it.

Be sure to check WFLS.com for the complete list of all the school closings/delays.

For Valentine's Day, why not make a heart out of Lego's for your kids?

How cute is it?

The good thing, it probably won't cost you anything either, since your kids probably already have all the pieces. Plus, won't it be fun playing with the legos? :)

I made these delicious lemon butter cookies a few weeks ago and wanted to share the recipe with you. They are very easy to make and they have the perfect, lemony flavor.

For the Cookies:
2 sticks unsalted butter (room temp)
2/3 cup white sugar
1 egg (I used a farm fresh egg from my friend, Melissa)
Zest from 1 fresh lemon
Juice from 1 fresh lemon
2 1/2 cups flour
powdered sugar for dusting
For the Glaze:

leftover lemon juice
powdered sugar
yellow food coloring

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, beat your sugar and butter until it's fluffy. Beat in your egg. Then mix in your lemon zest and lemon juice. Gradually mix in the flour until it's well incorporated. Dough will become thick. Put some baking spray on a cookie sheet. Roll dough into balls and place on cookie sheet leaving a space between each one. Use a fork to press into dough balls doing a criss cross pattern. Dust a little powdered sugar on top each cookie. Bake for about 15 minutes until golden brown. Place each cookie on a cooling rack. Once cool dust a little more powdered sugar. You can also drizzle some lemon glaze on top. Store the cookies in a tupperware container. I brought the cookies into the radio station and they were gone rather quickly. :)

Original recipe from here.
