Investigators of the mid-air collision of two planes registered to federal employees Monday afternoon in Fauquier County is handed over to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
One plane was registered to a Federal Avaiation Administration employee, the other to a National Transportation Safety Board employee.
Two people are dead and State Police report that both planes crashed to the ground about a mile apart from each other in the Union Church Road area.
One of the planes caught fire upon impact. Two bodies were found inside the wreckage of the Beechcraft BE-35 six seat aircraft. State police are working to identify the pilot and passenger and their remains have been taken to the medical examiner's office.
The FAA employee and pilot of the Piper PA-28, Thomas R. Provin of Broad Run, was taken to Mary Washington Hospital and was conscious.
Due to the nature of the crash and the plane registrations, the NTSB announces Tuesday that its Canadian office will finish the investigation.
