NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - A Newport News Police detective faces assault and battery charges stemming from an incident at a birthday party.
Police spokeswoman Holly A. McPherson says Detective Shantae Holloway is on administrative leave pending internal and criminal investigations.
Holloway is accused of assaulting her roommate Saturday night following a disagreement at a birthday party she hosted at her residence. The 28-year-old detective was off-duty at the time.
McPherson says Holloway's brother, 19-year-old Rakeym Jermaine Bell of Richmond, also faces charges. He is accused of brandishing a firearm at a female who came to pick up the roommate.
The roommate wasn't identified.
Holloway joined the police department in December 2007.
