NEW YORK (AP) - Some subway service is resuming after an underground steam pipe exploded near Grand Central Terminal in New York.

The city's transit agency says the blast during the evening rush hour did not damage the subway system.

Several blocks near the site are still closed to traffic.

Crews have been working to shore up the crater left by the explosion and investigators are trying to determine what caused it. Officials also have tested the air, since the pipe may have been wrapped in asbestos.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg blames an "infrastructure failure." He says it wasn't terrorism.

One person died from a heart attack and about 30 people were hurt.
