Several stations have been honored with multiple Murrows this year, including WFLS, which won two. Niche Herman's report "The Weiner Is " won in the category of Feature Reporting. Nancy Ball's "Focus: Recovering From a Brain Injury" won for News Documentary.
The RTNDA received 3,459 regional entries. Judges gave awards in 14 categories, including Overall Excellence, Spot News, Continuing Coverage and Investigative Reporting, among others.
The RTNDA has honored outstanding achievement in electronic journalism with the Murrow Awards since 1971. Radio and television news managers from markets across the country judged the entries in March. Frank Hammon, news director for WFLS, served on a panel that judged stations in the Boston radio market.
Regional winners automatically become eligible for the national awards competition, which will be judged in early June. The national Edward R. Murrow Awards will be presented in October at the RTNDA Awards Dinner in New York.
