ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. (AP) - Retired Air Force sergeant Mark Evans is ordering pizza to go -- very, very far.

The Elk Grove Village, Illinois vet is sending Chicago-style deep dish pizzas to troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. The pies from Lou Malnati's Pizzaria are being frozen and packed in dry ice. They'll arrive in the war zone in time for the Fourth of July.

Evans says he and his 16-year-old son Kent came up with the idea while eating pizza. At first Evans planned on sending 300 pizzas overseas. But he says when a local newspaper (Arlington Heights Daily Herald) reported on his operation pizza -- so many offers of help came in he now hopes to send the troops 3,000 pizzas.
