State police say the crash happened just before 9 p.m. when a car driven by 28-year old Lindsey Fillner of Sandston turned into the path of a northbound tow truck as she attempted to enter I-95 southbound. Authorities say Fillner made the turn from a travel lane and not the dedicated left turn lane. The five year old was taken to Mary Washington Hospital where she later died.
Three other children in the car were also taken to area hospitals along with Fillner.
Two passengers in the tow truck were also taken to the hospital for treatment. Their conditions have not been released.
State police are continuing their investigation.
