Yanks' Posada puts off surgery
Says he has
15 days to make a decision.

NEW YORK (AP) - Jorge Posada wants to put off surgery on his right shoulder even if it means sacrificing the start of next season. The New York Yankees catcher says he has 15 days to make a decision and he'll try rehab until that time comes. The Yanks placed Posada on the 15-day disabled list Monday for the second time this year. He was examined by the New York Mets medical director yesterday, and surgery was again recommended. Posada missed more than a month earlier this season with right rotator cuff tendinitis. Even if he were to return this year it would not be behind the plate. Posada says the shoulder doesn't hurt when he's swinging a bat but has gotten weaker because of his throwing. He's hitting .268 with three homers and 22 RBIs in 168 at-bats this season. He says the Yankees agree with his decision to keep playing even with the possibility of a six-month rehab looming after surgery.
