A woman involved in the murder of a Fredericksburg food delivery driver last year was sentenced to 60 years in prison. 37 year-old Marcey White was sentenced in Fredericksburg Circuit Court Friday for her role in the abduction and slaying of Yong Zhang in July of 2008. The 24 year-old Zhang was abducted and killed after White and her boyfriend, Jermaine Montgomery, lured him to a empty home on Charles St. by ordering food. Zhang was stabbed to death in Spotsylvania and his body was dumped in Sussex County. Montgomery has already pleaded guilty to capital murder in Spotsylvania and is serving three life sentences.
The sentence White received yesterday from Judge Gordon Willis exceeded the state sentencing guidelines and what was requested by Commonwealth's Attorney LaBravia Jenkins.
The guidelines called for a maximum penalty of 19 years in prison, while Jenkins asked the judge to give White 37 years.
Defense attorney Allen Bareford asked that White receive a maximum of 15 years in prison. Bareford noted that White had cooperated in the case against Montgomery and was not the actual killer.
Bareford seemed startled when Willis pronounced his sentence, asking the judge if he meant to suspend more time. Willis made it clear that he did not.
