Traffic snarled for hours on I-95 north in the Fredericksburg area Wednesday afternoon after an accident involving an overturned tractor trailer and a box truck. It happens at the 130 mile marker in the left and middle lanes, just after Route 3, shortly after 3:30 p.m. At times, up to four lanes of the interstate were closed for the accident investigation and cleanup. Traffic was allowed by to the right and the accident scene didn't get down to only one lane blocked until after 6:30 p.m. One witness passing the scene tells WFLS that one of the trucks looked like "a snarled piece of metal," although only minor injuries were reported.
Congestion started on northbound I-95 as far south as Exit 126/Spotsylvania. A short time later, another multi-vehicle crash happens in the 2500 block of Route 3 East at the I-95 overpass. Police, fire and rescue units from multiple jurisdictions, along with the Virginia State Police responded to the crashes.
