Pair of Polls Show McAuliffe with Gov's Race Edge, Sarvis Gets Sizable Share

by AP posted Sep 24 2013 2:04PM
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Two new polls show Democrat Terry McAuliffe with an edge over Republican Ken Cuccinelli, thanks largely to a gap in women's support strongly favoring McAuliffe.

A Washington Post-Abt SBRI poll shows McAuliffe ahead by 8 percentage points among likely voters, 49 percent to 39 percent with Libertarian Robert Sarvis reaping an impressive 10 percent of the vote. The Sept. 19-22 telephone survey of 1,003 adults statewide has an error margin of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.

Among women, McAuliffe held a 24 percentage point advantage.

A poll by Washington's WRC-TV and the Marist Institute for Public Opinion shows McAuliffe up 43 percent to 38 percent with Sarvis at 8 percent among 546 likely voters. That Sept. 17-19 survey has an error margin of plus or minus 4.2 percentage points.
