On March 21st
at 9:38AM, police responded to the 11700 block of Crest Maple Dr in Woodbridge (22192) for a burglary in progress. Homeowner reported to police that she was inside her residence when she heard loud noises coming from a lower floor of the home. Upon checking out the noise, she observed two unknown males, believed to be juveniles, attempting to break into the residence. Once confronted by the homeowner, the males fled on foot. No entry was made into the residence and no property was reported missing. Officers arrived in the area quickly and established a perimeter around the neighborhood. After a short time, officers located and detained two males who were determined to have been the males involved in the incident. Officers searched a backpack of one of the suspects and located several tools used to break into homes. Officers also located a plastic water bottle filled with an unknown substance. The property was brought back to the Eastern District Police Station in Woodbridge where the bottle was determined to be filled with a liquid believed to be gasoline and other material(s) intended to be used as an incendiary device. The Prince William County Fire Marshal’s Office, Hazmat crews, and the Virginia State Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit were called to assist in rendering the bottle safe. During the investigation, detectives from the Property Crimes Unit learned that the two males had broken into a second residence in the 4100 block of Burning Ridge Ct after fleeing from the initial residence. The suspects broke out a rear window and made entry into the unoccupied residence. The males then fled the residence after hearing police responding to the area. No property was taken from that residence. Following the investigation, both suspects were arrested. Searches of both suspect residences were also conducted. No other explosive devices were located.
