Proposed Power Line Heads to Regulators

by AP posted Jun 11 2012 9:38AM
DAHLGREN, VA. (AP) - Dominion Virginia Power is proposing a $36 million high-voltage power line in Dahlgren.

The 10-mile overhead transmission line would extend from an existing line on State Route 3 to a new substation at the Navy base in Dahlgren.

Dominion officials say the line is needed to support the growing needs of the Navy base and economic development in the area around it. The utility says demand for electricity in the Dahlgren area has grown 55 percent since 2001.

King George County Administrator Travis Quesenberry tells the Free Lance-Star  he will attend a hearing in Richmond on Tuesday to deliver the county's support for the new line.

The hearing will be conducted by the State Corporation Commission.
