VRE and CSX personnel have noted an increase in pedestrians crossing the tracks between platforms without authorization from qualified personnel.
Railroad officials are reminding people that it is very dangerous and illegal, considered trespassing. Some people routinely walk on the tracks at Burke Centre and Manassas Park as shortcut.
The Federal Railroad Administration and Operation Lifesaver report that in the U.S., a person or vehicle is struck on tracks about every three hours.
