The unemployment rate in the Fredericksburg area jumped a little in March compared with a year ago. The Virginia Employment Commission says the rate went up three tenths of a percent, but it's still better than the U.S. rate of 6.8 percent.
Stafford and Spotsylvania counties both had a 5.1 percent unemployment rate, followed by Fredericksburg at 5.4 percent, Caroline at 6.1 and King George at 6.3 percent.
