Some Stafford residents failed to fall for a scam over the weekend.
The sheriff's office reports that on at least five occasions a person identifying himself as "Lt. Paul Stevens" of the sheriff's office called residents on the phone to inform them that a warrant had been issued for their arrest for failing to show up for jury duty. They could avoid arrest by paying $430.00. "Lt. Stevens" told the would be victims they could send the money to an account. When they told "Lt. Stevens" they would come to the office to discuss it he hung up.
The sheriff's office does NOT have a "Lt Stevens" and cautions residents to be aware of the scam.
